Brown's electronic theses and dissertation (ETD) system was developed by the Graduate School and the University Library and launched in 2008. The system is designed to collect and archive the final dissertation as a text-based PDF file.

Satisfactory Academic Progress for PhD Students The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Department of English guarantee five full years (12 months each) of financial support for PhD students who maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. The Graduate Program in English only admits students to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. The program does not admit students for a stand-alone Master of Arts (AM) degree. The AM is an integral part of the doctoral program, and therefore only students who intend to pursue the PhD are eligible for admission to the Graduate Program in English.
